Keith, I think your interpretation is a possible explanation. I think we should remember that knowing the exact answer to such questions is not essential and certainly does not have any bearing on the validity of the Book of Abraham. Answering such questions can be a fun mystery to solve by scholars and could end up being evidence toward validating the claims of the Book of Abraham academically, but that's about all. If the Lord felt it important for us to know the exact process of translation and interpretation, he would have had Joseph explain it and preserve that explanation for all of us.

Keith, I am not Dr. Muhlestein, but I think your interpretation is a possibility. I think we need to remember that this is only an interesting mystery to solve, but has no bearing on the validity of the Book of Abraham. If God would have wanted us to know exactly how the translation process and interpretation was done, he would have had Joseph explain it. Thanks for your comment.

Dr. Muhlestein, you say that Abraham was struggling on the couch. I read once that Abrahams' body position is in the symbolical position of prayer. If you rotate the image 90 degrees counter-clockwise, as if he is standing, he has his foot forward and his hands raised in the air which is the classical symbol for prayer. This makes a lot of sense since the story says he prayed for deliverance. What do you think of this?
